The gap between demand and supply of Indian tasar silk products has never brought a situation of marketing problem. The limited supply of indigenous tropical tasar yarn forces to go for import of huge quantity of Korea yarn. It would take a long time to reach the required level of production of indigenous tasar yarn so that we could reduce the dependence on imports. Even then, it will be difficult to force out Korea yarn due to its high quality and low price. Machine reeled yarn has, however, the potential to replace Korea, if production and quality parameters are taken care, followed by well-planned marketing strategy as it brings the very Indianness in the products. Similarly, machine spun yarn can easily edge out other tasar spun yams in the market due to its superior quality. For achieving these objectives, a comprehensive quality assurance system needs to be implemented.
