Spun silk yarn production technologies: An analysis

The study revealed that yield percentage of spun silk yarn in Italian technology is highest in case white eri, followed by red eri, tasar, muga and least in case of mulberry. After several trails, approximate cost of production of spun silk yarn of all varieties of silk waste is given in Fig. 4 and Table 3. The production of spun silk yarn per spindle per hour and various twists per meter and twist multipliers were required for spinning of various counts of yarn depending on the end use (Table 4). The noil yarn realization in woolen system is higher as compared to open-end and cotton systems of spinning. In cotton system, recovery is very poor. In woolen system, one can spin up to 10~s count while in case of open-end and cotton systems, one can spin up to 40~s and 60~s, respectively.
