From the beginning as a cluster of marshy Fishing Island, the city of Mumbai has grown to become the commercial and industrial capital of the country. The suburban rail system in Mumbai is the oldest such system in the country. Railways have not only provided the cheapest and most reliable transportation to the public, but have also played a vital role in the social and economic well being of Mumbai.
