World Environment Day observed on Central Railway

Central Railway observed World Environment Day on 5th June, 2021. The theme this year is 'Ecosystem Restoration'.Going along with this year's theme of 'Ecosystem Restoration', Central Railway has taken various steps towards conservation of Environment. In the last four years Central Railway has taken up plantation of more than 18 lakh saplings of various kinds of trees on Railway land. A herbal garden with 120 saplings of rare spices and herbs has been set up at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai. 15 nurseries have already been set up and developed on Central Railway. 87 Eco-smart stations, Automatic Coach Washing plant at Wadi Bunder, Mumbai, Rain Water Harvesting Units at 133 stations, IGBC Green certification of 5 buildings etc are some of the other initiatives & achievements towards greener environment in the past few years by Central Railway. Shri Alok Kansal, General Manager, Central Railway, Smt. Tanuja Kansal, President, Central Railway Women's Welfare Organisation, Shri Ravipratap Singh and Shri Subramani Iyer, Executive Directors, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) were also present. Shri Alok Kansal visited the Miyawaki, a fast growing dense plantation system in which about 3 to 4 saplings are planted per square metre. Central Railway for the first time took up Miyawaki plantation activity on Mumbai division under the Corporate Social Responsibility on 250 square meter area at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. A total of 1000 saplings were planted. Shri Kansal also received the certificate for planting trees from M/s BPCL officials.
