Since year 2000, passenger traffic in India has increased by about 200% and freight traffic by about 150%. Affordable, fast and safe passenger mobility and swift movement of goods are always a priority area of Indian Railways. Indian Railways is focussing on many challenges. It is very important that Indian Railways adopts speedier, economical, environment-friendly, safe and reliable mode of transportation. These objectives are met by the Electrification of all BG routes of Indian Railways which has been identified as a mission area by Government of India.
