Indian Railways : Need to Balance between Social Obligations and Financial Viability

IR is the 4th biggest Rail Network in the world after USA, China & Russia. It runs 22000 trains daily which carry 23 million passengers and 3.3 million tonnes of goods. It's aptly called the National Transporter which provides the cheapest mode of transportation to the poorest section of the society. The unique socio-economic scenario of the country is also reflected in this gigantic organisation.
