Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is a statutory authority, under the Ministry of Railways, setup by an amendment to the Railway Act, 1989, for development of vacant Railway land for commercial use for the purpose of generating revenue by non-tariff measures. Indian Railways (IR) has approximately 43,000 hectares of vacant land. Land which is not required for operational purposes in the foreseeable future would be identified by the Zonal Railways and the details of land, thereof, would be advised to Railway Board. The same is then entrusted to RLDA for Commercial Utilization/ Monetization. Indian Railways (IR) has approximately 43,000 hectares of vacant land. Land, not required for operational purposes in the near future, is entrusted to RLDA by Railway Board in phases for commercial/residential development. The size of plots varies from small plots (1000 Sqm.) to huge land parcels (40000 Sqm.). The sites are put to tender through E-Tender/Bidding system and after highest bidder has deposited an upfront lease premium & entered into agreement with RLDA, the site is handed over to Bidder for Commercial/Residential development. At present, 58 Commercial sites are actively dealt and more are inline.
