The month of February, 2019 is being celebrated in DHR as Heritage month. Various events are being organized in this connection throughout DHR. In this connection, a steam special run was organized from Siliguri to Rongtong on 9 February, 2015 where school children were taken for a free ride on the steam hauled toy train. There are also plan to take foreigners also on a similar ride on 16 February, 2015. It is expected that such initiatives will help in more popularizing the already famous DHR toy train service. Walk to promote heritage was organized on 22 February, 2019 where people took walk from Ghum to Batasia Loop spreading the message to preserve the World Heritage site. Quiz and art competition were organized on 23 and 24 February, 2019 at Kurseong and Darjeeling amongst school children and railway wards. During this period, many important stations like Darjeeling, Ghum, Kurseong, Sonada, and Siliguri Town etc have been decorated with LED lighting to make them look attractive. More over Narrow Gauge steam locomotive and rolling stock presently available at Ghum museum have also been decorated.
