Kumaraguru College of Tech, Coimbatore-6 The malfunctioning of machine in industry leads to increased maintenance costs and disturbances in production. Reliable fault detection methodologies are needed for cost effective condition monitoring. This paper describes the symmetrical component approach for stator inter turn fault detection in three phase induction machine with help of fuzzy technique. The inter turn fault in stator winding of induction machine creates unbalanced stator line currents which in turn, produces negative sequence current in the line. The negative sequence component of currents is used as the fault signature for fault detection. The unbalance in line currents due to asymmetries in the machine is also taken in to consideration. Experimental results obtained on a specially wound laboratory induction motor are suitably used for constructing fuzzy fault detector.
