Rain water management for sustaining the yield in rice-wheat cropping system

摘要

The field experiment was conducted on rain water management to assess the productivity of rice-wheat cropping system in the rainfed medium land. Weir height of 10,15,20,25 and 30 cm were provided in the rice fields and the excess run off water through these weirs were collected in the refuges for recycling the same at the time of need. The result revealed that weir height of 20 cm gave the highest rice grain yield (50.2 q/ha) over the other weir heights tested. Among the 3 rice varieties (Ramachandi, Prachi and Sarala), Ramachandi produced the highest grain yield (46.5 q/ha). The average water depth retained in the refuges at 20 cm weir height in the months of October, November, December, January and February were 1.30, 1.02, 0.69, 0.43 and 0.17m, respectively. Wheat cv. Sonalika grown in succession in 50% of rice area yielded on an average 11.6 q/ha by providing 4 life saving irrigation from the refuges.
