摘要

As jute content in jute/polypropylene intimate blend carpets increases, the wear life and appearance retention of the carpets deteriorate. Carpets with jute content of 40% are inferior to 100% polypropylene carpets. Sandwiching jute between layers of polypropylene is one of the ways of improving wear life and appearance retention of carpets made of jute/polypropylene blends. In the layered blends of jute and polypropylene, it is advisable to keep jute layer at the bottom and polypropylene layer at the top and while structure needling such layered blends, a lower punch density at finish needling is preferable. Flame retardancy tests show that the time of extinction and damage length are higher with 100% polypropylene carpets than with jute/polypropylene blend carpets.
