摘要

The major pollutants of urban environment are sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, ozone and suspended paniculate matter. The ambient environment of an area is independent upon the over all interaction of the people and the environment. Five years air monitoring study was carried out to assess the primary air pollutants present in the ambient air in Chennai city during 1999-2003 at two different sampling stations. Monthly mean and exceedence factor values are determined. It was observed that the concentration of SPM in the sampling stations are very high, when compared with the values prescribed by National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAA QS) and it is confirmed by the exceedence factor calculations.
