Kinetic studies on the removal of Gentian Violet (GV) dye by adsorption onto Climbing Brinjal carbon (CBC) have been made. Effect of various experimental parameters, such as initial concentration of dye, contact time, dose of adsorbent (CBC), initial pH and particle size of CBC has been investigated using batch adsorption technique at room temperature (30±1℃) to get the information on treating effluents from the dye industries. The percentage removal of dye-GV increased with decrease in the initial concentration and particle size of adsorbent (CBC) and increase in the contact time, initial pH and dose of adsorbent (CBC). The initial pH of the solution highly influences the removal of dye. Adsorption data were modeled with the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms and various first order kinetic equations at 30±1℃. The kinetics of adsorption is found to be first order with intra-particle diffusion as one of the rate determining steps. The results indicate that the CBC could be employed as low cost adsorbent as alternative material to CAC in waste-water treatment for the removal of colour and dyes, in general and GV, in particular from the textile effluent.
