The New C-Tech based Sewage Treatment Plant at Vashi, Navi Mumbai

Until recently, Navi Mumbai treated its major sewage in aerated lagoons. The old sewage treatment plant (STP) at Vashi was a disused oxidation ditch where partially screened and de-gritted sewage passed through a primary clarifier. The sludge was removed every six to eight months. The quality of partially treated wastewater discharged into open channel meeting Thane creek, often did not meet MPCB standards. However, by setting up a new C-Tech STP, NMMC at Vashi and other nodes now, not only has an advanced technology been introduced but also the effluent meets the quality standards for reusing the water. This paper describes critical constructions of the STP.
