River sand is used in construction for a long time. However, owing to the phenomenal growth of construction activity, this resource is getting depleted at a rapid rate. Now with sand dredging going deep to a very low bed level, this activity is leading to the river bed erosion and jeopardizing the stability of structures built along the banks of rivers. Dredging distorts the parabolic shape and the continuing longitudinal gradient of the river bed leading to the erosion of the river banks (Figure 1).
