Recent advances in the use of concrete include such applications as aircraft engine test cells, turbo jet run ways, nuclear reactor vessels, missile launching pads, and a variety of similar applications making concrete's endurance to high temperatures a critical application need. In most such constructions, columns constitute a common structural element. This paper presents the test results of high volume fly ash (HVFA) concrete columns subjected to elevated temperatures and describes the resulting structural damages. A set of HVFA columns were exposed to temperatures, in the range 100°C to 800°Cfor three hours. The companion columns made with conventional concrete were also tested for comparison. The tests demonstrate that fire reduces the strength of the columns and the residual strengths of the HVFA columns were comparable to those of the companion conventional concrete columns.
