India is currently the third-largest producer of steel and is expected to become the second largest producer in the coming years. The Indian Steel sector has been growing significantly over the past few years and it crossed the 100 Mt mark in 2016-17, contributing about 2% of the country's GDP and employs over 6 lakh people. Also amidst the global gloom, India is the only country with growing steel demand.
