In-Plant Envelope Production Trends: Color, Speed, Digital

If you ask any in-plant manager about the current trends in envelope production, you're bound to hear about color, about improving workflows and about digital technology. Not everyone, however, will agree on exactly what type of press configuration or printing system delivers the best ROI. Stephen Lyon, president of Halm Industries Co. Inc., feels his company has made developments in its two- and four-color specialty presses to enhance print quality and reduce downtime. The company also has a five-color press. Halm presses accept polyester plates and have multiple-image cylinders. Lyon says the presses have increased operating speeds and can be converted quickly from one paper or envelope stock to another. Lyon predicts the company's products soon will incorporate on-press plate imaging. However, Lyon cautions that the technology is very expensive.
