Standards for new onboard lifting appliances and winches to be developed

The MSC agreed that a goal- and function-based SOLAS regulation should be developed to require that new onboard lifting appliances and winches be designed, constructed and installed either "in accordance with codes or standards acceptable to the Organization" or "to the satisfaction of the Administration"; and maintained in accordance with guidelines for safety of onboard lifting appliances and winches to be developed by IMO. The SSE Sub-Committee was instructed to continue its work on this item.
