Jack Schuster can't remember being first in anything his entire life. That all changed when he found out he got the highest score in 2010 on the certified laboratory equipment specialist (CLES) exam. "It was a little bit of a surprise. I've always been a good test taker but never the best," says Schuster, a bio- medical engineer for Kaiser Permanente in Berkeley, CA. Schuster and other top scorers for the exams shared their tips for how to succeed on the test. The International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC), of which AAMI serves as secretariat, offers three certification exams: CLES, certified biomedical equipment technician (CBET), and certified radiology equipment specialist (CRES).
