Making Practical High Frequency Electromagnetic Simulators-Past, Present and Future

Although Maxwell's equations have been known for over 100 years, it was not until the last decade that they have seen regular use in applied high frequency design. The availability of sufficient computer processing capability is only part of the reason Maxwell's equation now enjoy regular ap- plication. Other developments requiring considerable effect are needed as well. These include increased attention to robustness, software testing, ease of use, portability, integration with other tools, and support. These developments are detailed in this pa- per.
