The authors are working on Enhanced Downlink Multiple Antenna Transmission for the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) -Advanced specifications through the discussion on Radio Access Network Working Group 1 (RAN WG1). In this paper, we discuss various design criterions of length-4 orthogonal cover code (OCC) mapping for downlink demodulation reference signal (DMRS) e.g, peak power randomization, 2-D orthogonality and simplicity. We investigate performance of different OCC mapping candidates as well as the corresponding numerical results under these criterions.
