摘要

Motion sensing and compensation is one of the key challenges in airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Particularly, when operated on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), platform's motion error will cause severe distortions to the SAR image if it is not properly compensated. A light weight, low cost embedded motion sensing system suitable for miniature UAVSAR operation has been developed at the Multimedia University, Malaysia. This system employs a six degree-of-freedom Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and a high-sampling rate Global Positioning System (GPS) for precise motion sensing. Ground-based and airborne experiments have been carried out to verify the accuracy of the system. In this paper, we report the design and development of the embedded motion sensing system.
