Prof. Kensho Okamoto, who is one of the authors invented a novel amplifier consists of an infrared LED and a silicon photodiode excluding any transistor in 2010. He named this original amplifier "DISTAR". Furthermore, he found that the distar turned to a thyristor when the input current to LED exceeded more than a certain value. He named this original switching device "DIRISTAR". Using the DIRISTAR, we can design various "thyristorless" electrical switches. This paper introduces the DIRISTAR and its characteristics.%香川大学の岡本研正教授は、Si接合型トランジスタチップにLED光を照射して光起電力効果を調べる研究を行っているうちに、LEDとSiフォトダイオード(Si-PD)を密着させることでトランジスタのような增幅作用を持つデバイスが実現できることを発見した(2010年)。
