[Invited Talk] Future Perspective of Cloud Cooperated Heterogeneous Networks

Due to the growing traffic of smart phones and tablet terminals, new technical challenges are needed to increase system capacity of cellular networks. There are two technical candidates to solve this problem. The one is to introduce ultra wideband system in high frequency band, and the other is to introduce many basestations to form small cells. However, its coverage is limited in the high frequency band, and their coverage are overlapped in small cells where inter-cell interference becomes significant. Therefore, cloud cooperation to solve the inter-cell interference among many basestations, and heterogeneous cooperation to solve the limited coverage by cooperating with larger coverage systems, are inevitable to make these technologies effective. In this paper, the authors give concept and future perspective of the cloud cooperated heterogeneous networks through several technological examples that will promote high frequency band and small cells.
