The creation of three-dimensional digital content by scanning realnobjects has become common practice in graphics applications for whichnvisual quality is paramount, such as animation, e-commerce, and virtualnmuseums. While a lot of attention has been devoted recently to thenproblem of accurately capturing the geometry of scanned objects, thenacquisition of high-quality textures is equally important, but not asnwidely studied. In this paper, we focus on methods to construct accuratendigital models of scanned objects by integrating high-quality texturenand normal maps with geometric data. These methods are designed for usenwith inexpensive, electronic camera-based systems in whichnlow-resolution range images and high-resolution intensity images arenacquired. The resulting models are well-suited for interactive renderingnon the latest-generation graphics hardware with support for bumpnmapping. Our contributions include new techniques for processing range,nreflectance, and surface normal data, for image-based registration ofnscans, and for reconstructing high-quality textures for the outputndigital object
