This article proposes a flexible wireless multimediancommunications system where time-division multiple-access (TDMA) andndirect sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) schemes arenflexibly selectable according to user's quality of services (QoSs) andnchannel conditions. We evaluate the traffic performance of the proposednsystem and discuss the impact of the access scheme selectability on thentraffic performance. The key element of the proposed system is how tondetermine an appropriate access scheme for a user. Therefore, wentheoretically derive a simple selection algorithm to maximize the systemncapacity. Our computer simulation results show that the proposed systemnwith the derived access scheme selection algorithm can significantlynimprove the traffic performance as compared with conventional TDMA andnCDMA systems
