Significant progress has recently been made in lossless imagencompression using discrete wavelet transforms. The overall performancenof these schemes may be further improved by properly designing efficientnentropy coders. A new technique is introduced for the implementation ofncontext based adaptive arithmetic entropy coding. This technique isnbased on the prediction of the value of the current transformncoefficient, using a weighted least squares method, in order to achievenappropriate context selection for arithmetic coding. Experimentalnresults illustrate and evaluate the performance of the proposedntechnique
