From classical charge transport equations and dipole radiationnequations, we derive a simple analytical model for the signal detectednin terahertz time-domain spectroscopy using photoconducting antennas.nThe validity of our model is checked by comparison to publishedncalculated results and to experimental data we have measured. Thisnexpression depends mostly on the carrier lifetime in the antennas'nsemiconductor material and on the laser pulse duration. The analyticalnform of the detected terahertz (THz) signal allows us to separate thencontribution of the different experimental parameters. Together with andetailed noise analysis in THz time-domain spectroscopy, we optimize thenparameter values in order to achieve the largest dynamics of measurement
