Performance of WDM transport networks

摘要

Wavelength division multiplexed point-to-point transport isnbecoming commonplace in wide area networks. With the expectation thatnthe next step is end-to-end networking of wavelengths (in the opticalndomain without conversion to electronics), there is a need for newndesign techniques, a new understanding of the performance issues, and annew performance evaluation methodology in such networks. This paperndescribes approaches to that end, summarizes research results, andnpoints to open problems
