Protocol boosters

This paper describes a new methodology for protocol design, usingnincremental construction of the protocol from elements calledn“protocol boosters” on an as-needed basis. Protocol boostersnallow: (1) dynamic protocol customization to heterogeneous environmentsnand (2) rapid protocol evolution. Unlike alternative adaptationnapproaches, such as link layer, conversion, and termination protocols,nprotocol boosters are both robust (end-to-end protocol messages are notnmodified) and efficient (do not replicate the functionality of thenend-to-end protocol). We give examples of error and congestion controlnboosters, and give initial results from booster implementations
