Book's practical advice on control room design echoes editor's concern for human factors

A New IEE Book on control room design has been welcomed as a tribute to the pioneering work of one of its editors in bringing human faetors and the needs of operators to the attention of the engineering community. Matthew Bransby was a control engineer and IEE Fellow whose lifetime's work on various aspects of control rooms was cut short by a fatal rock climbing accident in Greenland in August 2000. A year earlier he had co-chaired the first People in Control Conference with Dr Jan Noyes, and at the time of his death the two were working on a hook based on the proceedings of the event.
