HANDICAP MATCHES: RYBKA VS. GRANDMASTER

Here are seven conclusions from these matches. 1. Time limit is important. The faster the game, the larger the appropriate handicap. 2. At FIDE time limit, the "fair" handicap against strong grandmasters is probably a Pawn, although much depends on the strength of the GM and the choice of Pawn. The f7 Pawn is really too much for a well-prepared strong GM in a slow game, partly because the opening is easy to analyze to a very large advantage due to the weakness of the black King. The edge Pawns are too small a handicap, the g7 Pawn too large, and the center Pawns change the game too much. I think that the c7 Pawn is the right one to use for future matches.
