Library & Information Science Research in Universities of Uttar Pradesh, India: An Informetric Study

Purpose: The present study is to analyse the doctoral theses in Library & Information Science (LIS) awarded in universities in Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) during 1997-2017 using Informetrics techniques. Methodology: Personal visits have been made to collect data from the nine universities of Uttar Pradesh. Shodhganga was also consulted for the purpose. Data elements were recorded on the MS Excel spreadsheet. Findings: It is found that 105 doctoral theses are produced during 1997-2017. Highest contributions are during 2015-2017. Eastern region of Uttar Pradesh is the productive geographical region. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) is highly productive institution. Journals are highly cited source in theses 10794 (60.15%) followed by books bearing 4154 (23.15%) citations. Originality: This study is the original research of the authors that is conducted on the basis of secondary data collected through reliable resources.
