Comparative Citation Analysis of Articles of Select Indian Open Access LIS Journals

Purpose: Highly cited research articles are interesting and are often associated with high citation counts with high quality research. This paper is an attempt to understand the attributes of highly cited articles in two Indian open access library and information science journals.Design: Two Indian Open access Journals viz. Annals of Library and Information Studies (ALIS) and DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) are selected for the study. Content analysis of citations have been analysed separately for each journal according to language, document, journal type (open access vs non-open access; Indian vs foreign journals), type of citing papers (theoretical vs experimental). The distribution of citation in the contents of the papers has also been provided.Findings: Findings indicate that majority of the citations are from journals (89.29% ALIS and 3 7.85% DJLIT). Well-conceived theoretical papers that focuses on concept or theory have greater citation advantage when compared to experimental research in the present study.Originality: The proposed understanding of the reason behind highly cited of two Indian open access journal is relatively new to the domain of studies.
