The sand dam of the Serebryanka No. 2 hydrostation, about 600 m long and 25-40 m high, is located on a rock foundation. The watertight element of the dam is flexible steel diaphragm, a special feature of which is the sliding transition with the rock foundation. The transition is made in the form of a horizontal steel sheet welded strongly to the diaphragm and is able to slide along a bitumen dampproof coating covering the concrete slab of the foundation. After filling the reservoir a displacement of the diaphragm at the base by about 1/100 of its height with a tilt upstream and preservation of rectilinearity of its main part was recorded.
