Installing Digital Generator Relays

In the past, protective relaying for the two generators at the 54-MW Wirtz project on the Lower Colorado River in Texas consisted of several conventional electromechanical relays. During rewinding of the generators, the Lower Colorado River Authority decided to replace these relays with a single, multi-function digital relay. This replacement reduces maintenance costs and requirements, as well as provides more operational flexibility.
