An estimated 250-ton (500,000-pound) slab is a direct threat to the 1,312-MW Glen Canyon project powerhouse at the foot of Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River in Arizona. The U.S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Reclamation reported a Navajo sandstone slab - measuring 30 feet at its widest point and 50 feet in height, with a thickness ranging from 6 inches to 4 feet - began separating from the wall of the canyon directly above the powerhouse the last week of August. The power plant houses eight tur-bine-generator units.
