The U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects-Energy (ARPA-E) has issued a third open funding opportunity that will support up to US$125 million in research and development in a number of disciplines, including hydroelectric power. The program, called OPEN 2015, includes a renewable energy category for: 1. Technologies that capture and/or convert hydrokinetic energy; 2. Technologies for hydro resource identification and modeling; 3. Technologies that advance semiconductor materials, substrates, circuit topologies, magnetic materials, inductors, dielectric materials, capacitors, transistors, device packaging and other relevant materials; and 4. Renewable energy technologies that do not fit into one of the other categories.
