ICOLD s 73rd Annual Meeting: Focus on Dam Engineering

Members of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) gather in May in Tehran, Iran, for the organization's annual event. In addition to its business meeting, ICOLD will focus on the topic of dam engineering during six days of workshops, symposiums, and dam site visits. On May 1-6, 2005, members of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) convene in the Middle East, where many large water resources projects are underway. In Iran, host country for the ICOLD 73rd annual meeting, about 230 dams impound water for irrigation, electricity generation, and water supply. More than 86 dams are under construction, and about 200 are being studied or designed. Much has been learned about dam engineering since 1975, when Iran last hosted the ICOLD meeting. The organizer of the 2005 event, the Iranian National Committee on Large Dams (IRCOLD), offers opportunities to learn about and observe this progress.
