Voith Siemens, Siemens to equip 248-mw Picote 2

National utility Energias de Portugal S.A. (EDP) awarded a contract to a consortium of Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation and Siemens S.A. to supply generating equipment for the 248-mw Picote 2 hydroelectric project on Portugal's Douro River. Voith Siemens said the 56 million euro (US$82 million) contract includes supply of a 248-mw Francis turbine, 273-mva generator, excitation system, automation, and balance of plant equipment.
