Work canceled on two plants to be built in Myanmar

Indian developers canceled work in June on two large hydro projects to be constructed in Myanmar: 1,200 MW Tamanthi (also spelled Htamanthi) and 642 MW Shwezaye, both to be built on the Chindwin River. Reportedly, the results of detailed project reports prepared by India's National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, which signed agreements with Myanmar officials in September 2008 to develop the projects, revealed the cost of constructionwould likely be prohibitive.
