Real average hourly earnings for all employees were unchanged from August to September, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported October 10. This result stems from no change in average hourly earnings combined with no change in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U). Real average weekly earnings decreased 0.1 percent over the month due to the unchanged real average hourly earnings combined with no change in the average workweek. Real average hourly earnings increased 1.2 percent, seasonally adjusted, from September 2018 to September 2019. The change in real average hourly earnings combined with a 0.3 percent decrease in the average workweek resulted in a 0.9 percent increase in real average weekly earnings over this period.
