The minimum wage in Oregon will increase to $11.25 per hour, effective as of July 1, 2019, except that for the Portland Metro area, the minimum wage will increase to $12.50 per hour on July 1, and for Nonurban County areas, the minimum wage will be $11.00 per hour. Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed Senate Bill 1532 on March 2, 2016, to raise the state minimum wage beginning July 1, 2016, through gradual increases over a period of six years, with increases based on geographical boundaries, to reach, by July 1, 2022, $14.75 in the metro Portland area, $13.50 in smaller cities such as Salem and Eugene, and $12.50 in rural areas. Beginning in 2023, the minimum wage will then be determined based on inflation, with larger cities being $1.25 more than the basic state minimum wage and rural areas being $1 less.
