On April 11, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that, using a computer-generated random selection process, it has selected enough H-1B petitions to meet the congressionally-mandated regular cap. It has also reached the U.S. advanced degree exemption, the so-called master’s cap, for FY 2020. The congressionally mandated H-1B regular cap is set at 65,000, while the master’s cap is set at 20,000. Filing period closed quickly. USCIS received 201,011 H-1B petitions during the filing period, which began April 1, including petitions filed for the advanced degree exemption. On April 5, the agency announced that it had received enough petitions to reach the congressionally mandated H-1B regular cap.
