The 116th Congress will bring significant changes to committees that oversee financial regulators,especially in the House where control will shift from Republicans to Democrats. However, giventhat the Senate will have a slightly larger Republican majority than it did in the last Congress, theprimary question will be whether bills passed by a Democratic-controlled House fare any better inthe Senate than did numerous bills passed by the Republican-controlled House during the 115thCongress. The singular, comprehensive securities and banking legislation enacted during the 115thCongress was the product of several years of bipartisanship, an effort that will likely have to replicatedif the incoming Congress plans to advance significant securities or banking legislation.
