Receipt of a pension from another source, such as from an employer or employer/ employee financed pension plan, has no effect on an individual's eligibility for Social Security benefitsrnGovernment pension offset. A husband's, wife's, mother's, father's or widow(er)'s benefit may be reduced by the amount of a government pension to which the individual is entitled on the basis of his or her own work in government service that was not covered by Social Security. The intent is to prevent government workers from getting both a full government pension and a full Social Security spouse's or other benefit.
