The Center of American Progress (CAP) has released an analysis finding that although all rural workers earnrnless, rural women of color face an especially large wage gap. Women of color are among the lowest paidrnworkers in rural areas, with rural black and Hispanic women who work full time year round making just 57 centsrnfor every dollar rural white non-Hispanic men make, according to the new study. Native American women fare arnlittle better, making 69 cents for every dollar white non-Hispanic men make.rnThese numbers make clear that addressing the needs of rural workers requires more than focusing solely onrnone segment of that workforce (usually working white men), according to CAP. Rather, any policy interventionsrnto improve the employment and economic outcomes for rural workers must recognize and be responsive to therndemographic differences within the rural workforce and the different challenges facing workers.
