Editorial Web-based technology and the changing landscape of HRD

摘要

Web-based technology has been revolutionizing the world of learning and working (Thomas 2010). A fixture of today's learning environment, rapid advancement of web-based technology that offers a wide range of tools allows individual learners to personalize their learning space. Learning, as an essential component of HRD, is no longer curriculum- or subject-based; it is all about being able to do something (Gilmore 2010). The rules of traditional knowledge sharing, learning and training in organizations are changing due to globalized economy, technology advancement and shift in workforce demographics. It is an important time to examine these changes and understand how they have impacted the field of HRD. In this short editorial, I try to explore the nature of the changes brought by web-based technology and digital mobile devices to the field of HRD, in hope to generate a broad-based discussion among HRD scholars and practitioners that goes beyond the scope of any single technology applications.
