摘要

In the past 40 years, there has been an ongoing outpouring of nature and environmental writing around the world, especially in North America, where the emphasis has been on the environment, especially on wildlife. Historically, however, American nature writers generally focused on humans' relationship to natural resources, including wildlife.rnWhen Europeans came to North America they discovered not only a cornucopia of natural resources, they found that restrictions on access to natural resources no longer applied. Not only did this serve as the basis for natural resource policy in North America, but the fact that natural resources were now available to all classes created new art forms. Among these was a literature of both popular and scientific intent, with the common link being writing about the relationships of humans to the natural environment.
